Charlotte-based collage artist London Lavendar combines Black Americana with traditional delicate Victorian patterns to challenge what it means to be a Black woman in today’s society. London draws the connection between past and present through physical and emotional likeness. Her art touches on themes that have no expiration such as identity, beauty standards, personal and sexual freedom and how the world has and continues to view Black women. By sharing her art with the world London hopes to engage the viewer in an opportunity to question, empower, educate and comfort.
